How did you get started on your career path?

I was kicked out of the corporate nest when my job was outsourced in 2007. I decided to turn my hobby into a money-earning business. I already had the majority of equipment needed to get started. I made business cards and sent a massive email to all my family and friends, and I haven’t looked back.

What is your definition of success?

Having clients that are super happy with my work and refer their friends and family.

What is something that you are proud of?

I’ve completed a lot of fun projects. One that comes to mind is my client wanted to wear her mother’s wedding dress, but she wanted it updated to a modern style. What advice would you give someone who is interested in your industry?

Know your worth when setting your prices. Most clients will appreciate your work and give you wonderful praise, but not always. Be prepared to educate clients on the tasks you need to do to get the project finished.

Networking in various groups anf businesses has really helped me grow my business with both repeat and referred clients.

What advice would you give to someone new to sewing?

Know that sewing is not all about the machine. There is a lot of prep work before you even touch the machine. Patience and calm are very crucial to embody. Start making items to learn to the basic techniques. Take basic sewing classes from a sewing store. Areas to focus on: reading and understanding patterns, fabric textures and tools and gadgets.
