Making a Home You Love
Designer Alysse Matthews didn’t set out to start a company and become a business owner. Her love for decorating her own home turned into a passion. She began helping friends and enjoyed helping them create a home they loved.
“With the busy, lives we lead, we need a place we can come home to that we love and can find peace,” she says. “Making the home a sanctuary is what I help people do.”
Alysse became a regular purchaser as her decorating hobby blossomed, and one of her suppliers became a mentor. It was this mentor who first suggested that she should pursue a career as an interior designer. This encouragement gave Alysse the confidence to start her company, Alysse Mathews Interiors, in 2000.
Over the past 18 years, the company has grown to include residential, commercial and her specialty: new construction design.
The house featured is a new construction designed in urban farmhouse style. The Cartwright Ranch House is a collaboration between Alysse Matthews Interiors and the builder, Brighton Homes.
When deciding on your own style, Alysse says, “Have a house that tells your story. Make your home reflect the things that are important to you. “
"We need a place we can come home to that we love and can find peace, making home a sanctuary is what I do."
This style blends the clean look of urban with the comfort of farmhouse.
Urban elements include metal beams, brass fixtures, black window frames, industrial lighting and railings.
Farmhouse elements include reclaimed wood, shiplap, white elements, barn doors and painted cabinets.
The most important thing to remember about accessories and art is to find a few things you love and that have meaning to you rather than trying to imitate a photo and purchasing a cartload of things at once.
