A Night in Monte Carlo & More for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Idaho
In 2010 a little boy named Bodhi Gavin Moore, from Emmett, Idaho, lost his five year battle with childhood leukemia. He was six years old and loved Star Wars, the Boise State University Broncos, his fort, and teasing his cat. His parents, Cahn and Meleah Moore, along with other family and friends in the Treasure Valley and with employees of Indepth Solutions, Inc., formed Team BodhiLove, to help keep this little boy’s memory alive by raising awareness and fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Idaho.
In 2014, Jennifer Perez, owner of Indepth Solutions, Inc., Yvonne C. Perez and her husband Ralph Perez, wanted to do something more as loving participants of Team BodhiLove. “Ralph and I had in the past supported the BodiLove team through Indepth Solutions’ efforts, but I knew little about the LLS myself and wanted to learn more about them. It took no time at all and I was sold,” Yvonne says. “The research being done to cure blood cancers is amazing and ground breaking. The research is truly cutting edge and has led to many successful treatments over the past several decades, not only for blood cancers but for many other cancers and diseases, like MS and rheumatoid arthritis.”
Together, the Perezes co-founded and co-chair an annual event called Betting On a Cure, with several components to raise money for research. The highlight is A Night in Monte Carlo, which features musical entertainment by a Rat Pack Tribute band, consisting of some amazing impersonators of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin, who come to Boise all the way from Ohio. There will be a red carpet leading the way to a 1950s style casino, complete with card tables and professional dealers, a supper-club themed dinner, and cocktails. It is black-tie optional on Saturday May 21, 2016, with social hour starting at 6pm and doors opening at 7pm at the Boise Centre.
The Perezes didn’t stop at a one night fundraising extravaganza. With the invaluable support of their thirteen member event board, a cancer awareness symposium has been added to the Saturday event. This will be a late morning/early afternoon symposium featuring speakers and informational booths to bring awareness on current treatment options, new research, trials and patient advocacy along with promoting what the Treasure Valley has to offer for cancer care. “This will be a great opportunity and a first of its kind in the Valley,” says Ralph. “We hope to provide very important awareness to our community as a whole, including those suffering with these diseases, their families, friends, and the medical community.”
To further benefit the LLS of Idaho, the Perezes co-founded the For-A-Day™ program. Local leaders doing educational and inspirational work in community and business positions are asked to volunteer a few hours of their workday to teach a young person the ins and outs of their career. The chance to be an Idaho Senator For-A-Day, a Veterinarian For-A-Day, a Firefighter For-A-Day or a Writer For-A-Day, for example, will be auctioned off between May 1 – June 30, 2016. For-A-Day is entirely a volunteer program with zero administrative costs associated with the auction, so 100 percent of all auction monies will do directly to the LLS.
If you are interested in sponsorship information for the Betting on a Cure event, would like more information about the symposium, would like to purchase tickets to the event, or wish to volunteer your expertise and time as a For-A-Day leader, please contact Yvonne C. Perez at 208.761.4341.
