At Home at Ethan Allen Design Center
I inherited Ethan Allen furniture–a plaid couch, roll top desk, dining room table, and chairs–from my mother-in-law. The furniture is high quality and built to last. An American company, Ethan Allen has been around for 80 years. More than 70 percent of Ethan Allen product is made in North America.
Boise is home to an independent and locally owned Ethan Allen store–the Ethan Allen Design Center of Boise, which Jane Cliff opened 21 years ago. As president, Jane works closely with her son and vice president, Justin Cliff. As a local small business, the Cliffs understand the importance of relationships and customer service. “We are here to help as little or as much as you need,” Jane says.
Many furniture stores and design centers give the customer options in upholstering furniture, but Ethan Allen furniture is truly customized. In addition to selecting fabrics for your sofa, you can also choose different arms, legs, skirts, and special trims. Change the look of wood furniture with multiple finishes or hardware options. Ethan Allen designs and manufactures custom window treatments and bedding. Their design team has custom rug options and an amazing gallery of lighting, art work, accents, and ready-made soft goods to help create the perfect room or home. Even if you only need a single item for your home, the team at Ethan Allen can make sure you find the perfect piece.
Ethan Allen’s team of trained designers collaborates with clients about their vision for the space. After visiting the home to take measurements, the designers create a space plan showing how the furniture will lay out in the room, and help clients select products with the perfect fabrics, finishes, and embellishments.
Jane is enthusiastic about working for Ethan Allen. “We have it all,” she says. “Where else can you purchase high quality furniture with fair pricing, professional complimentary design, and white glove delivery service? Ethan Allen is not throw-away furniture–it is worth the investment because of its timeless style and top of the line quality.”
“Ethan Allen is constantly updating styles,” Jane continues. “The style of our furniture is not cookie cutter. We just introduced many products that have an old world European look, much like you would find at a flea market in Paris. We have added Mid-Century modern to our list of products and we are adding fun new accents, fabrics and finishes every few months. However, if there is a home run or a classic that never goes out of style, products are added so that our clients have more options.”
Jane studied business at Boise State University but believes interior design would have been a better fit. “You can say I learned design through Ethan Allen University,” she says. “Anyone who loves art, space, architecture, color, fabrics, and form should find the skills to be an interior designer. From the young couple who is starting out and understands value and quality, to the empty nester wanting to down size and enjoy a simpler life, and everyone in between, everyone’s at home with Ethan Allen.
