Entrepreneur Jeff Ehlers Opens Zoom Mobile Oil

Entrepreneur Jeff Ehlers has created Treasure Valley-based Zoom Mobile Oil, which brings oil change services to a customer’s home or office.

According to a release, the company is one of the first of its kind in the United States and the first in Idaho. Customers schedule an appointment online, and then a technician drives to their location.

“I select technicians that I would trust to come to my own home and change the oil in my family vehicle,” Jeff says.

Idaho Commerce Announces IGEM Grant Recipients

Idaho Commerce recently announced the latest recipients of two Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) grants. These grants are awarded to Idaho research universities to partner with industry leaders on research projects geared toward commercialization.

Boise State University received $255,496 to assist Molecular Testing Labs with research efforts to commercialize a ribonucleic acid home test for early HIV detection.

The University of Idaho was awarded $274,167 for research and development in optimizing laser metal deposition additive manufacturing techniques with Premier Technology Inc. This statewide collaborative project leverages skills and expertise from the University of Idaho, Boise State University, the Idaho National Lab and the Center for Advanced Energy Studies.

“These projects are innovative and potential disruptors in advanced manufacturing and world health,” Idaho Commerce Director Tom Kealey says in a release. “The collaboration across Idaho research institutions and innovative companies means a higher probability of success.”

Sacajawea’s Capture and the History of the Early West

Enjoy a free presentation at the Idaho State Museum by Elizabeth Fenn, Pulitzer Prize winner and Organization of American Historians distinguished lecturer.

In this illustrated slide-lecture, Fenn uses the circumstances of Sacajawea’s capture to illuminate a deeper history of the northern plains and Rockies. Fenn discusses indigenous warfare, hunting techniques, environmental conditions, horse-borne interactions and plains power dynamics as they pertained to a one-month period of Sacajawea’s life.

This lecture makes the deep history of the West accessible to broad audiences. Doors open at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15. The lecture will be held 6-8 p.m. and is sponsored by the Idaho State Museum and Boise State University Department of History.
