Article and Photography Richard Meyer Blue Lake is one of my favorite backpacking destinations for a quick escape into the Boise National Forest. With a hike that is just under a mile, it’s a perfect introduction to backpacking and allows for packing some heavier, luxury items that you wouldn’t want for a longer trip into the backcountry. No problem on this short hike. A nice water filter provides unlimited water, and with some skill/luck, you can catch your dinner in the pristine blue waters of Blue Lake.
