A gratitude jar is a timeless keepsake that you can make year-round for anyone, or for any occasion, for little to no cost—ensuring you’ll get points for creativity and thoughtfulness. Using a repurposed food or canning jar with a lid is preferable, but a small, plain or decorated cardboard, wood or tin box will also work. Use scraps of paper big enough to write a short sentence, but not too big to fit in your jar or box. Decorate with ribbon strips, along with your added love and imagination.

The streets were quiet and coming slowly alive in the early morning hours in Ketchum, Idaho, as you could see shop owners sweeping in front of their businesses and city custodians taping off orange cones on the main street. Everything was getting ready for what would be a bustle of activity on this final day of the Trailing of the Sheep Festival.

FarWest’s Harvest Festival in October featured hayrides, a scavenger hunt, games, pumpkin painting, craft booths and a guess-the-weight-of-the-great-pumpkin contest. This year’s festival entry fee served as a donation to the Ada County Boys & Girls Club that serves kids around the Treasure Valley.

Muffled voices from the living room trickled into my childhood bedroom. I was 5 years old. Groggy and hair askew, I sauntered out in my Little Mermaid pajamas into a scene of bustle and clamor. The house was packed with people: my aunt, uncle and cousin. Both of my parents. Members of my aunt’s extended family visiting from out of town.

Before Mark Clark and his building team began working on this Boise North End home, it had a small kitchen, a dilapidated garage and traditional styling that paid heed to early 1900s architecture but didn’t fit the style and needs of the homeowner. Though much of the original home was preserved, this home has been artistically updated to function for the modern family.

The City of Trees, known as Boise, is a bike-friendly environment with access to the Boise Green Belt that intertwines near the river, colleges and parks. Out of such an environment has arisen the Boise Bicycle Project. This organization is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community cooperative group that works to make sure everyone has access to a bike, regardless of income or background.
